thatched-hut of catan
worst settlers of catan game ever. i'm the orange. yes, that's right: the results of my efforts are a single road. and the robber is back on the desert. i moved him there in hopes that my opponent would win more quickly, to end my misery. this misery is compounded when your opponent is danny. a savage.
jamie and i headed to the studio to work on the grudge and a new song, and it was awesome. after he focused on some tough parts in some headphone-sessions, we ran through it a couple of times and it was powerful. i don't think jamie's snare drum has ever sounded so good... a combination of the gallery acoustics, it's move back to a proper stand, and his (more) powerful hits... CRACK!
more sketches
i've been sketching the cat-man some more... i think we're getting somewhere with this guy. we'll see where he ends up; chessman joe and i are throwing around some ideas.
i've been watching deadwood on the recommendation from both jamie and nick, and it kicks ass. the acting is awesome and the characters are so strong. in fact, it's so cool that it made me want to grow my 'stache and mini-goatee out, so i did.
happy birthday danny! happy birthday nick!
viper assassination squad
kill bill ushered in the first of hopefully many thursday-movie-nights. fruit salad, chocolate chip cookies, beer, cheese, strawberry mochi, and blood spraying everywhere. here's some more character doodles:
slouch
some more doodles escaped my hand today:
when asked what people like to do for fun, some people say they enjoy hanging out with friends, going to the movies, etc. but some people also say they enjoy having a good time - which is weird, if you think about it. can you not enjoy having a good time? does that even make sense? i know... i shouldn't think about such things.
clutch it like a cornerstone
band practice tonight was awesome - the crunch, the timbre, the mutes, the rakes, the tone, the timing, the stomping and the feeling.
[1:37am update]we've been staring at an odd light in the sky for a while now. it's flickering red and blue, craziness! i looked it up and apparently it's
sirius. wow! apparently there will be another low-flying star on sunday, vega.
more drawings
anyone know of some good figure drawing reference photos? sites?
gestures
happy wednesday! enjoy some deformed gestures:
everything days
when i finish up a big project (kotori 9), i end up in a short span of time that i like to think of as my "everything days" - basically days where i get to do a little bit of everything i enjoy. today was an everything day. i worked, practiced guitar, went to a movie, updated some web sites, did some coding, and made a little sketch:
children of men was excellent.
dig kotori 9
this saturday was the opening of the
dig me out show at the
nucleus, featuring a bunch of emerging artists. some of the sets were really impressive. i don't remember exactly who all of the artists are, but there are some tall vertical scrolls with plenty of personality, and some silhouttes filled with watercolory textures that look magical.
so i've wrapped up yet another 84 pages, and
kotori issue 009 is printing as we speak (as you read?). man, it's exhausting. but rewarding. i don't know how we're still able to do this, but there was a very good aura surrounding all the work on this one. is it delirium? it should be hitting newstands and bookstores soon; pick one up!
dustofalus
meet dusty, the nucleus puppy - he's frickin' adorable.
a few nights ago chelsea cooked an incredibly-delicious italian meal at our place, which we proceeded to devour, complemented by some arrogant bastard beer from a gigantic bottle (it was like two and a half feet tall). the rest of the evening was filled with dorkness - settler's of catan (with one of the most amazing endings ever), and some wii tennis (jeremy's overhead smash is oh-so-graceful). i also got a kick-ass painting from jeremy for christmas - thanks man!
we're cranking out issue 9 of kotori in record speed (due to the holidays overlapping the schedule). we had our very own photo shoot, complete with hired models, crazy fashion, blue screens and strange behavior, and i'm currently comping the shots into a spread; it's been one of the most fun pieces so far.
i moved shadiradio to a new host a few days ago, but that host was frustrating so i just moved it again yesterday, and this new one is nice. i think it will be home for a while.
happy new year!
2007 will probably usher in flying cars, commercial cryogenic chambers and insta-nutrition pills. that's the only way it will top the teleportation devices and anti-crime robots seen by 2006.
